Information about the Texture of our Marshmallow Cones

Most of the packages for our Marshmallow Cones carry the following message:

This candy changes with the weather.  In cold, dry weather it will be quite crisp.  In warm weather it will be soft.  However, crisp or soft, this candy is fresh and tasty!

Occasionally, we get questions from customers about the texture of their candy.  The weather and humidity definitely affect the Marshmallow Cones.  They usually start hard and dry, because we dry the candy in a hot room for packaging.  After the Marshmallow Cones are packed, they reabsorb moisture from their environment and they soften.  This process occurs at different speeds for our different packages.  In the winter or in very low humidity, the texture of the candy can vary from rock hard to tough and chewy.  In the summer or in very high humidity, the marshmallow tends to be very soft.

We have some customers who prefer them hard (most of the factory’s employees are in this category) and others who like them soft.  To soften them during the winter you can try putting them in the microwave for a few seconds or leaving them in a warm (preferably humid) room for a few days.

Once a Marshmallow Cone has re-softened from its original drying, it will almost never become hard again – instead it (magically) stays soft for the rest of its life.  So, if by chance you get a hard Marshmallow Cone, rest assured, it is not stale – rather it is fresh off of the line.  And they are still tasty!
